Calvaria – Ghost
Calvaria’s new single Ghost gets you in the haunting mood ahead of Halloween. The Bristol based alternative metal band know a thing or two about writing atmospheric rock songs. They’ve honed their skills and built a significant following since releasing their first single At World’s End in 2023.
Ghost opens up with some heart felt vocals, which take an introspective look at the impact of longing and regret. It’s a skilled analysis of what it’s like to grieve, but not be able to let go. However, it’s not long before the power vocals kick in, and the thunderous beat reminds you of why we love metal so much. No other music genre is able to convey this weight of emotion, and Calvaria are the emerging flag bearers.
At times there is an almost industrial element to Ghost, which ebbs and flows over a full five minutes.
They say Osmium is the heaviest natural metal, but having listened to Calvaria I’m not so sure about that. With an upcoming EP and UK tour in the pipeline for 2027, Calvaria have a bright, and naturally heavy, future ahead of them.
