The Lookout Service get groovy and sentimental on their new single I Loved You A Long Time Ago.

Toronto based duo The Lookout Service have a reputation for producing radio friendly rock that has both power and poise.  I Loved You A Long Time Ago is a masterclass in rock grooves and oozes sophistication.  That’s due in part to the song being book-ended with some funky studio production on the intro and outro.  Stergios Kalochoridis’ guitar work is polished but raw, and could quite easily have been produced by Rick Rubin (think of the guitar work on ZZ Top’s I Gotsta Get Paid).  Ian Fragomeni’s drumming drives the song along with a steady pulse.

I Loved You A Long Time Ago may feel like a serenade, but it’s about as subtle as arriving at a friend’s BBQ in a helicopter.  It’s melodrama rock with a hint of daytime TV about it.

It’s worth noting the artwork for the single too.  Produced by Jana Kalochoridis (Stergios’ mum) it’s an abstract narration of distance and absence – a perfect metaphor for this classy song.
