Mr. Dinkles – R.I.P.T.

Five Star Review

There are Primary elections taking place in California, including one for the Mayor of LA.  Unfortunately, Mac Rettig isn’t on the ballot paper.  That’s a shame, because she speaks more sense than all the other candidates put together.  She can even do it in song.  That’s extra clever.

Mac Rettig is the mastermind behind Mr. Dinkles, an LA based post-punk, post-grunge, duo you absolutely need in your life.  That’s because (wherever you live in the world) you’re likely having to put up with dumb-ass politicians speaking the language of hate, and Tech bros with a Messiah complex building The Network State.

Mr. Dinkles are the antidote to Dystopian society, and their latest release R.I.P.T. could be Mac Rettig’s manifesto for office.  These five classic tracks represent a skewering of others through focused observation (Letter to Elon, Eat Chips and Talk Shit), messages of equality (Socialism Ditty) and an honest, albeit wry, assessment of self (IDRW, Grinding My Teeth).  Forget the Manosphere, this is the Macsphere.

The music on R.I.P.T. combines Mr. Dinkles trademark down tuned, sludgy guitars with some hypnotic riffs.  The drum beats from Rocco Ramos combine power with restraint – it’s the notes he doesn’t play (as Miles Davis might have said).

So, if you are bewildered by the world, and wonder what the hell our leaders will do next, take a listen to R.I.P.T.  There’s a redemptive quality to Mac Rettig’s song writing, set against the often dark backdrop of life.  In short, Mr. Dinkles are good for the soul.

Alternatively, go to a political rally.  But, IDRW.
