Vinyl Floor – Balancing Act

Danish pop/rock band Vinyl Floor return next month with their sixth studio album Balancing Act (scheduled release date 27th February). The band consists of two multi-talented musicians: Daniel Pedersen and Thomas Charlie Pedersen. In the studio they augment their sound with the addition of other skilled musicians, who contribute everything from guitar to string and brass instruments.
Vinyl Floor have a track record of producing songs with a hint of nostalgia. There’s a throwback to the great British pop/rock bands of the 1960s and ‘70s, all brought up to date with a contemporary approach to the recording process, which in this case was done at Studio Möllan in Malmö, Sweden.

Balancing Act has a distinctive blend of progressive rock and pop styles, and here is a quick rundown of the key tracks:
Opening songs All This And More and I’m On The Upside, have an up-tempo drive to them, with the first track benefiting from a heavier beat and lush vocal harmonies.
The Helping Hand and Mr. Rubinstein are mellow and could have slipped effortlessly onto Supertramp’s Breakfast in America album.
Tell The World It Happened and Jacaranda Blossoms both have beautiful piano motifs, and an altogether more atmospheric feel to them. Land Of The Desert feels like a post C&W track and has some beautiful string work.

Back Of My Hand is an instrumental that wouldn’t look out of place on the soundtrack to a Spaghetti Western film. The Swan Of Eileen Lake could have been penned by The Beetles, and title track Balancing Act brings the thirteen track album to an all too early close.
Vinyl Floor’s music rewards the listener looking for depth and complexity. Their thoughtful lyrics and beautifully constructed songs provide relief from a world that all too often seems out of balance. So, give them a listen, especially if you are trying to perform a balancing act in your own life.
