The Captain return with their latest single ‘Can’t Hide’.  The Captain are the most exciting thing to come out of the Netherlands since Arne Slot.  ‘Can’t Hide’ is a sonic tour de force from a group of talented young songwriters and musicians.

The song opens up with some rumbling bass from Bouke Jong.  Here’s someone who knows how to create a sense of menace with four strings.  We then hear some nice drumstick work from Jens van den Brink.  It’s a cool sound and adds a nice twist to the intro.  It’s also reminiscent of the sound he created on earlier release ‘Medicine’.  Next, step into the limelight Kiki Baljé.  Kiki has the kind of voice that is both expressive and powerful.  It’s instantly recognizable and she uses it to great effect to convey a wide range of emotions.  ‘Can’t Hide’ even has a searing guitar solo, and the combined efforts of guitarists Jasper Does and Bryan van den Bos add a level of complexity to the song that transcends the numerous ‘vanilla’ rock tracks that are released on a daily basis.

They say that if you want to understand human relationships you should read Shakespeare, to which I would add…………..and listen to The Captain.  ‘Can’t Hide’ deals with someone coming to terms with a deceitful relationship.  The lyrics brilliantly capture human vulnerability and our attempts at resilience.  A video to accompany the song is set to be released on 9th May, so join the queue and take a peek at the future of post-punk rock and roll.  The Captain really are that good.
