Mannequin Death Squad – Shame

Mannequin Death Squad – Shame

Mannequin Death Squad return with their latest single ‘Shame’.  The track, taken from their second album ‘Wise and Dangerous’, puts the Melbourne punk duo on the same level as other great rock duo’s such as ‘Wargasm’ and ‘Royal Blood’.

‘Shame’ begins softly enough with a self-indulgent melancholy lament.  But restraint is for other bands and a minute in to the song the familiar sound of distorted guitars and pounding drums kick in.  Mannequin Death Squad might play like punks but they write like poets.  The lyrics explore themes of insecurity and boredom, and are delivered with the kind of nonchalant parody that you have to take seriously.

Mannequin Death Squad consists of Elly and Dan.  These multi-talented instrumentalists swap between guitars and drums with the kind of ease that suggests they have a kind of musical telepathy.

Elly and Dan have been doing what they do since 2016, and their future is looking brighter by the minute.  Mannequin Death Squad tour the UK in July (tickets available here), as special guests for DZ Deathrays, so go be wise and dangerous yourself – no shame in that.
