Belmondo – Ventriloquists

Belmondo are back with a skilfully crafted belter of a rock song. ‘Ventriloquists’ is pacey and punchy, with enough energy to power a small town.
‘Ventriloquists’ is taken from Belmondo’s upcoming debut EP, and if this track is anything to go by we are in for a real treat. Belmondo have always had the confidence to play with different musical genres, and they have the technical ability to back that up. Maybe it’s the multi-cultural make-up of the band, or their musical education, but either way they have crafted some of the most engaging and enigmatic songs we’ve listened to in a long time.

‘Ventriloquists’ begins with some laid back saloon style piano, before the BPM kicks in to high speed with some grungy guitars and powerhouse vocals. Mood manipulation within a single track takes some skill, but Belmondo pull it off with ease. The band use changes of tempo to create feelings of sensuality one second and induced energy the next – think of Wings ‘Live and Let Die’ and you’ll get the picture.
The band have just come off an extensive European tour, in which they won rave reviews for their live performances. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long to see them again. In the meantime, take a listen to ‘Ventriloquists’ and – pass it on.
