Mollie Coddled – Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Mollie Coddled returns with her most powerful and expressive track to date.  Manic Pixie Dream Girl is a tour de force of neurodivergent song writing from an artist way ahead of her contemporaries.

Much like David Bowie, Mollie Coddled writes anthems for the alienated.  Swimming against the tide of bubble-gum pop, Mollie Coddled isn’t playing the part of ‘tomato girl summer’, or whatever the latest aesthetic palette is on TikTok.  Instead, Mollie Coddled contents herself with the altogether more arduous, but non the less rewarding, challenge of entertaining whilst educating.

The term Manic Pixie Dream Girl (MPDG) was coined by American film/music critic Nathan Rabin; a term he later apologised for using because of the way it amplified derogatory thinking about certain types of female movie characters.  Mollie Coddled applies the phrase with the precision of a surgeon’s knife, and in doing so raises awareness of mental health issues and the associated sense of isolation that often comes with it.  Musically, this is a song with a nifty groove that manages to be both playful and poignant.

Mollie Coddled has always had a knack of conveying insightful wisdom in her lyrics.  Lines such as “you just fell in love with the idea of excitement” is a reminder that other peoples’ behaviour is a reflection of their own disturbance.

Many artists have to choose between oblivion or conforming to a stereotype.  Not Mollie Coddled.  She is defined by her own story and creative talent.  A talent that enlightens and entertains in equal measure.
