Meet Matt Bradford – The King of Slide Guitar

Matt Bradford could easily be crowned the King of Slide. This guy is clearly the love child of Billy F. Gibbons and David Gilmour, with Elmore James as his Grandpa. I can’t recall anyone, other than the aforementioned, delivering such a shot of dirty raw energy whilst simultaneously gliding smoothly over every note on the guitar. Comparisons between David Gilmour’s performance of ‘One of These Days‘ on his Fender lap steel and Matt Bradford’s own compositions are not misplaced.
Matt started playing at 16 and hasn’t stopped since. His talent has made him an in-demand session musician, working alongside established artists at the recording studios of Sony and Universal. Matt’s also toured extensively across the USA.

‘1 Minute Jams, Vol 1’ is his latest release on Spotify; an epic 50 track blaze of musical sonnets. This is the musical equivalent of Erwin Wurm’s One Minute Sculptures, and just as entertaining.
Take the track ‘V8’; a cacophony of bent notes, jangling rhythms and power blues. It’s a foot stomper alright – with hobnailed boots cracking the dusty floorboards beneath your feet.
Matt Bradford is fluent in many musical styles, but blues rock is a recurring theme. So if that’s your thing, slide over to YouTube and check him out ripping it up on everything from a glinting National guitar to a simple cigar box guitar.
